Procrastinating again

It is Sunday morning and the Tallis Scholars are strutting their liturgical stuff in the background. I’ve had a very bumpy week and things have yet to settle down completely. Of course I’m supposed to be working. I’m struggling with a typography assignment in Illustrator for which I find that technically I have to refine my ideas so that I can actually execute them as vector art.

In the process of considering my next move, I rediscovered Banksy. He is responsible for guerilla acts of random art. He has achieved notoriety both in the UK from where he hails and around the world as his artwork heralds his presence. His work is politically subversive and very worthy of attention.

Accused of vandalism, the victim of hate mail and wanted by the British police, Banksy’s artistic commentary does not just adorn the public pavements and walls. He also puts his talent to work on canvas.

In fact he has had successful exhibitions and sold books of his work, and I’ve read that some of his work has sold for several thousand pounds. He has surreptitiously exhibited his own works in galleries around the world to goad the art world.

I’ve talked about my take on graffiti before and I believe that there is room for this kind of environmental commentary. I would rather look at a well executed piece of graffiti than at a giant hoarding selling me stuff, any day.

To view this weblog the way that I imagined it - you will need to download the script font Jeana. Here is the link to the True Type font with instructions for download and PC installation. I believe that Mac OSX users are also able to use this file.
