Resuming year one studies has been a challenge with all the previous year’s class having moved on to second year.

Today we did some more charcoal life drawing though and here is the 7 minute sketch that is the most appealing to me of my work today. I don’t think I’ve progressed much since last year.

My friend Danielle, whose work is much admired by student and staff alike, assures me that in time I too will be able to see the shadows and capture them properly.

I really enjoy drawing, but it is a skill that needs to be regularly exercised. I’m not as driven as I need to be.

When I got home from class this afternoon I drew the following still life as the final piece to fulfil requirements for the visual literacy project.

It never ceases to amaze me when I draw something that actually looks like something. That something may not be what is in front of me, but it is recognisable.
